WNPL Qualifying Final Preview: MUWFC vs Adelaide City

WNPL Qualifying Final Preview: MUWFC vs Adelaide City

It’s Finals time! After 21 Rounds, our WNPL and WNPL Reserves teams were both crowned Premiers, a just reward for finishing top of the respective Leagues after the regular season. But as we move into Finals, that means nothing. No one remembers the Premiers. They remember the Champions. The Grand Final winner. So now, 3 weeks begin where players become immortals.

Our WNPL team face the old enemy, Adelaide City in what will be the 5th time the teams have met in 2018. The previous results this season have all been tightly fought affairs, with the Black and Whites coming away with a 4-2 win way back in Round 2 (MUWFC’s only loss in the 2018 WNPL), before our girls returned the favour and took a 4-2 win themselves in Round 9. City were able to beat our girls 2-0 in the Cup Quarter Final, then went on and won that Competition, before, just 2 weeks ago in Round 21, an intense 2-2 draw was played out at TK Shutter Reserve, which confirmed MUWFC as Premiers.

Expect another tight contest between the 2 teams, with City’s Tiarn Powell, Daniela di Bartolo and Dylan Holmes all being in good form heading into the Finals, while for our MUWFC girls, Golden Boot winner Chrissy Panagaris is always one to look out for, as well as the ever dangerous Stella Rigon, while Nicole Calder is a rock in defence, but can pop up with a goal from set pieces. FFSA Hall of Famer Kristy Moore is another who can change the game very quickly, with a wealth of experience behind her.

With the winner of this game going straight to the WNPL Grand Final at Hindmarsh Stadium on Saturday September 1, there will be nothing given easily from both sides, as they look to enjoy a week off before Grand Final day.
